Karen Moldenhauer, 80, Velva, ND, passed away Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at Trinity Hospital.

Karen Jean Lauckner was born June 15, 1944, the daughter of James and Dorothy (Riemenschneider) Lauckner, in Bottineau, ND. Karen was raised and educated in Kramer, graduating from Kramer Public School in 1962. She attended Bottineau School of Forestry for one year and then continued her education at Minot State College, where she received a degree in Elementary Education.

Karen’s teaching career included Mandan Public Schools from January 1965 through the spring of 1966, Newburg School from the fall of 1966 to the spring of 1968, and Velva School from the fall of 1968 through the spring of 1969.

Karen married Vern Moldenhauer on June 16, 1968, at Zion Lutheran Church in Kramer, ND. They made their home in rural Velva. They were blessed with three children. Karen was a housewife and mother until 1987, when she started working at Souris Valley Care Center in Velva. Karen was active in Homemakers, Square Dancing, and the Sew and Sew Club, and was a member of the LWML and The Roughrider Saddle Club.

Karen and Vern are members of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Sawyer, ND.

Her loving family includes: Husband, Vern of 56 years, children, Julie (Jay) Brown, Berthold, ND, Kristie (Ryan) Hoff, Velva, ND, James Moldenhauer, Velva, ND; grandchildren, Kacie Schaefer, Jordyn Schaefer; great-grandchildren, Trevin Mowan, Tallin Mowan, Tillie Mowan, Tenzlie Mowan; brother, James (DeAnna) Lauckner, Kramer, ND; sister, Betty Sutter, Fort Dodge, IA, Connie (Dean) Jurisch, WI; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother-in-law Edward and Hertha Moldenhauer; brother-in-law, Gary Sutter.

Visitation: Monday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Velva.

Funeral: Tuesday, December 3, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Oak Valley Lutheran Church, Velva.

Interment: Velva Cemetery, Velva, ND.

Lunch: Following the burial at the Senior Citizen Center, 122 Main St N, Velva.
