Sheila Dalen, 66, Minot, died Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in her home.

Sheila Kay Peterson was born on December 18, 1957, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (McCardle) Peterson at St Joseph’s Hospital in Minot, ND. She was raised and educated in Minot until the age of 8, when she moved to Washington.

In 1981, Sheila settled back in Minot and began working at the Ward County Register of Deeds office. On October 22, 1987, Sheila was united in marriage to Thomas Dalen. They made their home in Minot, where together they raised their two children, Keith and Amanda. Sheila was an excellent mom who never missed her kids’ activities, it didn’t matter how far she had to travel. While raising the children she continued to work at the Register of Deeds office, later becoming the County Recorder. During her time at the recorder’s office, Sheila spoke many times in front of the legislature.

She retired in 2011. Thomas and Sheila purchased a new camper that they spent the next three years living in, going back and forth from Arizona to North Dakota. They also purchased a motorcycle and rode around the country together. She loved to take pictures of their rides from the back of the bike. Sheila and Tom then moved to Yuma, AZ, where together they managed RV parks in Yuma and Apache Junction. In 2023, they returned to Minot to be closer to their family and grandchildren.

She was a member of the North Dakota Association of Counties and the Eagle Riders #3850 in Apache Junction, AZ. Sheila was a go getter who didn’t take no for an answer, she found a way to make things happen. She wasn’t one to sit still, but in her downtime she would crochet or create diamond dot pictures.

Sheila is survived by: husband of 37 years, Thomas; children: Keith (Jenna) Dalen and their children: Lorelai and Lillian; Amanda Dalen; step-daughter, Amber (Jeremiah) Miller and their children Cyndall and J.J.; bonus grandchildren, Kensleigh, Dawsyn, and Kipton Erickson.

Sheila was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest (Mabel) Peterson and Mary (Edwin) Franz; infant sister, Sharon; and two brothers, Sheldon and Shannon.

Funeral: Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at First Lutheran Church, Minot. Interment: Sunset Memorial Garden, Minot, ND. Visitation: Monday from 5 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to the ALS Association.
