Robert J. Sam, 80, Minot, died Tuesday, October 22, 2024, in his home.
Robert James Sam was born on November 12, 1943, a son of Emil and Alvina (Kapp) Sam in Medina, ND. He was raised and educated in the Medina area, where he graduated from Medina High School in 1964.
In July of 1964, Robert was united in marriage to Lois Stoppleworth at the American Lutheran Church in Woodworth, ND. Robert enlisted into the United States Air Force. He proudly served his country in various locations throughout the U.S., including Washington, California, Ohio and ND. He retired on July 1, 1984.
Robert was a very devoted and loving husband. When Lois was diagnosed in 2006 with dementia, he served as her caretaker until 2015. Lois died October 6, 2020.
Robert was an excellent handyman. He enjoyed building things. He loved hunting–especially prairie dogs. He was always helping others. You needed something found or done; he was your man for the job.
He is survived by: Children, Robert (Maria) Sam, Michelle (Jeff) Jacob, Marcus (Stacey) Sam; seven grandchildren, Porschea, Sydney, Chandler, ShayLynn, Alex, Hunter, Taylor, Izabella, and Zachary; two great-grandchildren, Mason and Paisley; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 56 years, Lois, siblings Gerald Sam, Duane Sam, Virginia Schmidt, June Berge, and Shirley (Docktor) Striechen.
Visitation: Wednesday, October 30, 2024. from 5 until 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot. Memorial Service: Thursday, October 31, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at Zion Lutheran Church, Minot. Burial: A private family burial will take place at the Gem Cemetery, Woodworth, ND.
In lieu of flowers memorials preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association, Wreath Across America or donor’s choice. Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
