Arlene Solar, 97, Minot, formerly of Des Lacs, ND, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Edgewood Vista Assisted Living in Minot.

Gilma Arlene Aker was born September 9, 1927, the daughter of Peder and Sina Aker, in Vang Township of Ward County, ND. She was raised and educated in Des Lacs, ND. Following high school, Arlene ventured out holding down her first job and eventually ending up in Fargo, ND, where she met the man she would marry.

Arlene married Rudolph Solar on March 15, 1952, in Tucson, AZ. They made their home in Tucson, but moved back to North Dakota, living in numerous locations before settling in Des Lacs. They were blessed with five children, Diane, Rodney, Mary, Julie, and Nancy. Rudolph passed away on October 25, 1975.

Arlene was a member of Rose Valley Lutheran Church. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, crocheting, baking, gardening, canning and she shared her many talents with her family and community.

Her loving family includes: children, Diane (Tom) Witteman, Mary Grove, Julie Solar, Nancy (Nick) Vaira; daughter-in-law, Charette (Keith) Crabb; 10 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Rodney Solar; son-in-law, Gary Grove; 7 brothers; and 11sisters.

Funeral: Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot. Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND. Visitation: Monday, October 14, 2024, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
