Ronald E. Carlson, 74, Minot, died peacefully August 16, 2024, in a Garrison nursing home from complications of diabetes.

Ron was born on January 17, 1950, in Minot, ND, to Roy and Beatrice (Dougherty) Carlson. He was raised and educated in the communities of Granville and Rugby, ND, until returning to Minot in 1959. He graduated from Minot High School in 1969. Ronald enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corps during his senior year and entered active-duty service on July 17, 1969. He attended boot camp in California and was later stationed in Hawaii. Ron served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged from active-duty service on July 31, 1973.

Ron was once married to Marilyn Walters and from this union their son, Christopher, was born.

Ron worked various jobs in Minot until joining Sweetheart Bakery in 1979. He worked for the company until its closure in 1998.

Ron loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who carried a lifetime love as a diehard fan of the New York Yankees. Ron was a truly kind, caring and loving man. He enjoyed collecting Yankees and Marine Corps memorabilia. Ron will be deeply missed by all those he touched with his kindness and generosity.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Beatrice Carlson; stepmother, Mary Carlson; siblings, Kay “Red” Carlson, Duane Bell, Gayla Bell and Jeffrey Carlson on August 18, 2024; along with numerous aunts and uncles.

Ron is survived by his son, Christopher Carlson, Minot; brother, Todd (Mary Kay) Carlson, Minot; nephews, Drew Carlson, Garrison; T.J. Carlson, Great Falls, MT; and Chad (Angela) Schnaible, Minot; niece, Chanda (Troy) Parkinson, St. Paul, MN; stepchildren, Debra Endicott, Columbus, OH, and Ted Endicott, Westwego, LA. Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins include Arlene Morris, Connie Rouse and Esther Lukkasson, Bremerton, WA; Donnie Carlson, Casper, WY; and special friend “Bugsy” Canon, Port Orchard, WA.

Interment with Military Honors: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND, in Section 18. Visitation: Wednesday, August 21, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Thomas Family Funeral Home, Minot.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
