John Michael Skorick, 78, of West Fargo, ND and formerly of Butte, ND passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 18, 2024, at Bethany Retirement Living in Fargo, ND. A private family graveside service will be held at the Butte Cemetery in Butte, ND, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Burning Hearts Church 650 40th Ave E, West Fargo ND 58078. Arrangements are pending with the Bethke-Nelson Funeral Home of Drake, ND.
John Michael Skorick was born to John Skorick Jr. and Thelma (Ogne) on July 19, 1946, in Minot, ND. He grew up in Butte, ND, and graduated from Butte High School. Mike was drafted in the United States Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam as a tank driver. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
Mike was united in marriage to Cynthia Berce on November 19, 1977, in Minot, ND. He lived in Minot with his wife raising his two children while continuing to farm and raise cattle in Butte, ND. He attended First Assembly Church in Minot for many years and had deep faith and love of the bible and Jesus as his Lord and Savior. For the past 23 years, he and his wife lived in West Fargo/Horace, ND, and he continued to farm until retirement in 2017. He attended Burning Hearts Church in Fargo forming enduring friendships.
He enjoyed family dinners and get-togethers with friends most of all. Mike was an avid listener to documentaries, all things physics, and could talk for hours about what he learned. Mike had a great sense of humor and enjoyed visiting over coffee with friends in Butte over the years. He taught his children and grandchildren many things about farming and his Ukrainian heritage. Mike adored his children, and three grandsons and happy memories were made on his farm, attending activities and just hanging out with his family. Mike’s final words were, “I am a family man”, which says it all!
Mike is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cynthia; his son, John Michael Skorick JR. (Sarah) of Valencia, Spain; his daughter, Tressie Christine Brazil of Fargo, ND; three grandchildren, Brendan, Gabriel, and Aiden Brazil; sister, Marlys (Wesley) Perkins of Ruso, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Thelma, and brother, Richard.
