James Peter Bohl, of Bowbells, ND, passed away Monday, July 29, 2024, at the Kenmare Hospital. Born on March 18, 1938, in Fargo, James was the son of Peter and Julia (Vogel) Bohl of Flasher. He was raised and educated in Flasher.
On June 17, 1958, James married Kathleen Ternes in Flasher. Together, they farmed with his father before relocating to Bowbells in 1966. There, they operated the Country Boy Truck Stop for nine years and later purchased a farmstead, which became their home and workplace until James’ passing. In addition to farming, James was the owner of Jim Bohl & Sons Trucking and J & J Gravel.
For the past nine winters, Jim and Kathy enjoyed time in Mesa, Arizona, where Jim took great pleasure in outdoor shuffleboard and meeting new friends. In 2018, he was honored with an induction into the Bismarck-Mandan Stock Car Racing Hall of Fame. He also served on the Burke County Fair Board for many years.
James is survived by his loving wife, Kathy; sons, Jeff (Kristi) Bohl of Bowbells and Bismarck, and Perry (Judy) Bohl of Bismarck; and grandchildren Darin (Gayle) Bohl of Bottineau, Jena (Ross) Schroeder of Chandler, AZ, Brady (Stacy) Bohl of Bismarck, Shayla (Jeff) Evink of Bismarck, and Bryce (Janae) Bohl of Berthoud, CO. James also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Breckin, Kellen, and Kya Bohl; Henry Schroeder; Henley Bohl; and Brinley and Briar Evink.
James was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Julia Bohl; his in-laws, Mike and Anna Ternes; and his sister, Mary Lou.
A family service will be held this fall, with burial at Union Cemetery, Mandan. Memorials to the Bowbells Ambulance are preferred.
