Dennis Hendershot
March 16, 1959-July 11, 2024
Las Vegas, Nev.
Dennis Lee Hendershot, 65, Las Vegas, NV, passed away Thursday, July 11, 2024, surrounded by his family and loved ones, in a Las Vegas hospital, from complications related to Covid.
Dennis was born in Minot, North Dakota on March 16, 1959, to Jerald and Darlene (Hoellinger) Henders- hot. He was raised in Minot and attended Little Flower School and Bishop Ryan Catholic School, graduating in 1978. He attended NDSSS in Wahpeton and then Minot State College, where he obtained a degree in Criminal Justice.
Upon graduation, he became a Correctional Officer at the Ward County Jail in Minot. Never wanting to stay in one place too long, he took advantage of career opportunities to travel all over the United States. As he moved up the ranks of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, he resided in California, Georgia, Kansas, North Carolina, and Hawaii. He retired in Arizona in 2015 as an Associate Warden.
Dennis absolutely loved and was still very active in so many outdoor sports, including tennis, hiking, bike- riding, golfing, swimming, and most recently, pickleball. In his retirement, he taught himself all aspects of home-remodeling, mostly helping others with their projects. Dennis purchased his childhood home in Minot. He enjoyed visiting family and former classmates when he came back to North Dakota.
Dennis was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma in October of 2023 and sought treatment at Mayo Clinic, in Rochester, MN. He resided there until June of 2024, leaving Minnesota a happy, healthy man. Dennis’ successful stem cell harvest in May resulted in 7 million cells, which were frozen for future potential transplant. They have now been donated to Multiple Myeloma research at Mayo Clinic, per his request upon harvest.
Dennis was passionate about his health. He was forever reading articles and studies, researching, and learning about the latest medical tests and breakthroughs. He would share his findings with anyone that would listen.
His bout with Covid caught him by surprise and we are so sorry. Rest in peace, dear brother.
He is survived by his significant other, Mary Li, and her family, Las Vegas, NV; son, Jordan (Heather) Hendershot, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Adalyn and Jace Hendershot, Minot ND; siblings, Robert Hendershot, Bismarck, ND, Debra Gebur, Garrison, ND, David (Kelly) Hendershot, and Pamela (Blake) McKay, Minot, ND; along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ronald and brother-in-law, Larry Gebur.
