Sherry Lynn (Evenson) Lalum, 49, passed away Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Trinity Hospital in Minot, North Dakota after a short, courageous battle with cancer.
The daughter of Ken and Linda Evenson, Sherry was born September 16, 1974, at Kenmare, North Dakota. She graduated from Burke Central High School, Dickinson State University, and earned her Masters Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of North Dakota. Sherry married Casey Lalum on June 2, 2006, at Runaway Bay, Jamaica. They were blessed with son Cannen and daughter Finley.
During her 25-year teaching career Sherry was a classroom teacher in Bowbells and Burke Central School, an elementary principal at Bowbells, Burke Central, and Divide County Schools, and a superintendent at Burke Central School. Sherry was a member of the North Dakota Education Association, the North Dakota Elementary Principals Association, and the North Dakota Council of Educational Leaders. She was also an American Legion Auxiliary member at Portal, North Dakota.
Family was the most important part of Sherry’s life. Her children were the center of her life, and she enjoyed every minute she could spend with them. She enjoyed spending time at the lake with her family and extended family. Sherry enjoyed many outdoor activities—–hunting, fishing, golfing, boating were a few of her favorites. Sherry also enjoyed sports, especially baseball, and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
Left behind to carry on her memory are her husband, Casey; son, Cannen; daughter, Finley; parents, Ken and Linda Evenson; brother and sister-in-law Chris and Amanda Evenson; niece and nephews, Kallee Evenson, Nathan Evenson, Damion Higgins; mother-in-law, Kathy Lalum; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Carroll Lalum; brother-in-law, Anthony Lalum; maternal grandparents, Joyce and Harold Gunderson; paternal grandparents, Casey and Esther Evenson; uncle, Steve Gunderson; and cousin, Tyler Gunderson.
Memorial Service: Monday, June 24 2024, at 11 am at the Bowbells High School Gymnasium.
Interment: St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery, Minnewaukan, ND. Burial will take place later.
Visitation: will take place one hour prior to the service in the school gymnasium.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Bowbells or Portal Ambulance Services.
