Gail Sjol, 82, Minot, ND, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Missouri Slope Nursing Facility.

Gail was born October 12, 1941, the daughter of Milo and Olga (Anderson) Evans, in Minot. She was raised and educated in Stanley where she graduated from Stanley High School in 1959. Gail was very active in her high school years as she was a cheerleader, part of the Student Council, and led the 4th of July Parade in Stanley as majorette.

She married Dennis Sjol on April 3, 1960, in Stanley, ND. They made their home in Minot, but would move to Washington State in 1966. Gail would stay at home and care for her growing family. In 1968, she and Dennis moved back to New Town where they joined the family grocery business, owning and operating Denny’s Piggly Wiggly. Gail was very involved in the business as the bookkeeper.

In 1984, they moved to Minot. Gail worked at B & B Drug as the Merchandise Manager for many years until she finally retired in 2006. Dennis passed away in 2014.

Throughout the years, Gail was very active in the community. She was a 4-H Leader, Girl Scout Leader, part of the Jaycees’, member of the Eagles Area Auxiliary where she served a term as President, among other community activities.

Gail enjoyed traveling with her husband throughout the United States and abroad. When home, she loved spending time with her grandkids, she especially loved the babies, and enjoyed entertaining and cooking for the family at her home.

Her loving family includes: sons, David (Julie), Rugby and Chad, Bismarck; daughters, Tracy (Dan) Dove, Bismarck and Paula (Tony) Benham, Minot; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Lane Evans, Dickinson, Gene (Christie) Evans, Lynwood, WA, Paul (JoAnn) Evans, Hinckley, MN; sister, Jane (Norman) Volk, Surprise, AZ; sister-in-law, Carol Amiot, Minot, ND; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 53 years, infant son, Troy, sister-in-law Ardis Evans, and brother-in-law Glenn Amiot.

Funeral: Monday, December 11, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.

Interment: Rosehill Memorial Park, Minot, ND.

Visitation: Sunday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home, Minot.
