Oct. 5, 1953-Oct. 21, 2023
Minot
Roland Modin (70) passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 in his home in Minot, ND. He was born October 5, 1953 in Kenmare, ND to Glen and Ruth Modin.
His early years were spent in Kenmare until 1965 when he moved with his family to Minot, ND. He lived in Minot the remainder of his life except for 2 years in Fairbanks, Alaska where he worked for Overhead Door Company, 1975 and 1976. His first job in Minot was with Nash Finch and continued with them for a number of years about the same time farming with his dad, eventually buying the farm. In 1997, he sold the farm and began buying properties in Minot.and has been a property owner until his death.
He liked mathematics nearly graduating with a mathematics degree at MSU. As a property owner he was a good problem solver – able to know what was needed and who to call to resolve repairs – he could think outside the box. He enjoyed meeting and visiting people. He often wanted to pay for the meal when with others. He played Sudoku and Scrabble and did very well at both of them. He enjoyed local high school sporting events. Some of his interests involved learning about the Hebrew people and more recently good nutrition. He enjoyed sharing spiritual thoughts. One thought: What a wonderful thought it is that some of our most joyful days of our lives haven’t happened yet. Roland loved to please God. Another thought: Every time I am reminded of the perfect plan of God, it’s wonderful. One scripture he would share was Micah 6:8. He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God.
He is loved by his surviving brothers: Robert (Pam) Modin (Fargo), Larry Modin (Palm Springs CA), Gene Modin (Bismarck) and Gaylord (Mary Kay) Modin (Bismarck). Nephew Chad Modin (Campbellsville KY), Derek Modin (Bloomington TX). Niece Jacqueline Dunbar (Fargo). Grand Nephews Bian Dunbar (Fairmont WV) and Zorion Dunbar (Fargo).
Preceded in death by his parents and his beloved sister Eunice Modin.
