Leo Irey

Leo Irey, 95, Minot, ND, passed away Saturday, November 11, 2023 in his home. Leo was a farmer, inventor, realtor, investor, computer whiz and card player extraordinaire.

Leo Everett Irey was born April 10, 1928, the son of Frank H. and Elsie M. (Ladd) Irey in Maxbass, ND. He was raised on the family farm near Newburg until age 10 and attended Russell School. When his father purchased a new farm about 12 miles to the southwest the family moved and he completed 8th grade at Pratt School. He started high school in Upham but was unable to finish due to farming obligations.

Leo helped with his family farm eventually purchasing it from his parents as well as more land. He and his brother, Don, also did auto body repair from a garage on the farm.

He married Beverly Sandy in Westhope, ND and continued expanding his acreage over the years and purchasing land from his siblings. After his retirement from farming, he moved to Minot to work in real estate and investing in properties.

Leo moved to Mesa AZ and lived there for 40+ years. He returned to Minot in 2022 and lived at Edgewood for 18 months until his death.

Leo is survived by children, Richard (Connie J), Lake Metigoshe, ND, Marilyn, Butte MT, Steven (Connie F), Minot, ND; grandchildren, Patrick (Kirsten) Irey, Aaron (Sarah) Irey, Jason (Stacy) Irey, Anne Haskins, Garitt (Jessi) Irey, Stephanie (Wayne Hagel) Irey, Eric Irey, Scott (Claudia)Boehler; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Leona Kuhn, David (Pat) Irey, Tom (Linda) Irey; sister-in-law, Elaine Irey, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Leo is predeceased by his true love Betty Fight; son-in-law, Cole Boehler; parents, Frank and Elsie; siblings, Garnet Frost, June Frost, Don Irey, Ruth Duncan, Betty Meyer; brothers and sister-in-law Earl Duncan, Gene Kuhn, and Karen Irey.

Celebration of Life: Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church, 200 5th St SW, Surrey ND. A meal and fellowship will follow the service.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service.

Memorials: are preferred to Caring Edge Hospice, Farm Rescue or an organization of the donor’s choice.
