Just as a farmer’s crops have seasons, so does his life. On Thursday, June 29, 2023, Mark Jerome Solberg returned to the earth he had cared for as a humble, hardworking farmer. His funeral will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2023, at 10 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Bottineau. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-7 p.m. at the Nero Funeral Home in Bottineau. Burial will be at the Rosehill Cemetery in Minot.

Mark began his life in Rugby, on November 16, 1942, born to Mel and Veda (Engen) Solberg. His love of the land and mechanics was cultivated at an early age. He graduated from Bottineau High School in 1960 and continued his education at the ND School of Forestry and the ND State School of Science with an Auto Mechanics degree in 1964. Mark showed his dedication to our country by serving in the ND National Guard, 164th Engineer Battalion.

During his early years, as he was sowing the seeds of what was to become a successful farm operation he built from the ground up, Mark married Carolyn Becker. They had two children, Paul and Alyson, who continue his legacy of honesty and hard work. In 1996, Mark married Bonnie Strand in Bottineau.

Mark’s sense of community was firmly planted in his commitment to serving for many years on the Pickering Township Board, the Bottineau Farmers Elevator Board and First Lutheran Church Council.

Mark is missed by his wife, Bonnie; son, Paul (Lynn); daughter, Alyson (Kevin) Schepp; grandsons Dawson and Gavin Schepp and Landen Solberg; brother Greg (Carmen); nephews Chris (Angie) Solberg, Chuck (Lauri) Solberg, Joe (Brianna) Solberg; Bonnie’s family: sons Brent and Jason (Denise) Dickinson; grandchildren Sabrina, Levi, Matthew and Adam Dickinson; great-grandchildren Kambri, Connor, and Tatum.

He is welcomed by his parents.

Mark’s hard work has ended but it continues with the legacy he leaves behind. We picture Mark driving his new Chevy pickup to check the crops he planted with his beloved John Deere equipment.
