Jerome Frank Young was born on May 4, 1948 in Harvey, ND. He was the son of Sebastian and Eva (Schuh) Young. In his early years, he attended a one room school house in rural Pierce County. He later attended the Harvey High School. Due to his father’s illness, he decided not to finish high school in order to help his mother and brother James with the daily chores on the farm. Jerome greatly enjoyed taking care of the Holstein cows and calves. In 1975, he got into the dairy business with his brothers Jim and Don. Together, they produced and sold Grade A milk to Bridgeman Creamery in Minot for many years. He also helped with the farming and haying. When it came time to stack the bales, he was the “very best” at helping guide his brother Don to the stack. He made sure the bale stacks were tight and straight. When Jerome retired from milking, he along with his brother Jim bought, raised and sold bred Holstein heifers and later on, black Angus steers. While doing this, Jerome made friends throughout the state. Friendships were very important to him as he enjoyed visiting with his friends. Jerome was very proud of the Young Bros. Farm, of which he was part of. He did his best to help it grow and prosper.
In 2019, Jerome was diagnosed with skin cancer. He had to receive a series of 35 radiation treatments in Bismarck in August and September of that year. At his next checkup, he was declared cancer free.
Jerome had a deep sense of Faith. He loved his family and friends, his Lord and Savior and the Blessed Mother Mary. In the eyes of the Lord, Jerome was a true Christian in every sense of the word. He was always willing to forgive or lend a helping hand. The door to his goodness was always open for all to see. He was intelligent, a person of excellence, full of love, and destined to eternity. As a kind, caring, and compassionate person, he truly had a heart of gold, the quality of which will always be remembered. Jerome was more than just a friend, to us he was a true brother in Christ. We will forever miss his loving presence among us.
Jerome was a lifelong member of the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church of Selz and served as Treasurer on the Board of Trustees in 2001, 2006, and 2007. He was a member of the Selz Catholic Order of Foresters. Jerome also contributed to many organizations such as the Harvey Fire Department, Pierce County Fair, Bismarck Cancer Center, and many other charities.
Jerome is survived by his sister, Joan (Bill) Spaunhorst, Abilene, TX; brothers, James and Donald both of Harvey; nephews, Douglas (Rachael) Stinkeoway, John (Kendra) Stinkeoway all of Starkweather; Scott Spaunhorst of Abilene, TX; nieces, Lisa (Pete) Bjornstad, Cando, Lorna (Russell) Carter of Sachse, TX and Janet Ann (James) Williams of Clyde, TX.
Jerome was predeceased by his parents and sister, Jeanette Stinkeoway.
