Lois Christensen, 99, of Minot, formerly of Flaxton, died Friday, February 24, 2023, at the Benedictine Care Center in Garrison.

Lois Coons was born May 17, 1923 to Stanley and Emma Sue (Dalton) Coons. She was born and raised 13 miles northeast of Bowbells where she attended country school and high school in Bowbells. Lois was the fourth of seven children. Her mother passed away in 1936 when Lois was only 13. Being the oldest girl at home, she took care of her younger siblings. Lois learned to bake bread, cook, and do housework at an early age. As a teenager, Lois did housework for neighbors in the summer and worked at a general store in Woburn.

Lois met her future husband, Kenneth Christensen, in 1939 at a dance in Northgate. They were married on December 18, 1940. They lived on the Christensen family farm in rural Flaxton and raised their family. Three children were born to this union: Gail, Wayne, and Laurel.

Lois was a member of the United Lutheran Church in Flaxton and was active in the women of the church. She was also active in Band Boosters, PTO, Homemakers Club, and was a 4-H leader for 10 years. She always had a garden and enjoyed cooking and baking throughout the years.

Kenny and Lois retired and moved to Minot in 1979. They were members of Christ Lutheran Church and the Moose Club. They were married for 69 years before Kenny’s death in 2008.

Lois is survived by her daughters, Gail (Laverne) Ingerson, Minot, and Laurel (Keith) Fleck, Solen; and one son, Wayne (Pat) Christensen, Flaxton; eight grandchildren, Rodney Ingerson, Randy (Linda) Ingerson, Curt (Michelle) Christensen, Brent Christensen, Denise (Marshall) Chrest, Krissy (Andy) Wells, Chelsey (Tyler) Kralicek, and Cameron (Paige) Fleck; twelve great-grandchildren with one more arriving in May and the first great-great-grandchild arriving in July; and sister-in-law, Maxine Coons.

Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Kenny Christensen, her parents, and her six siblings, Virginia (Victor) Henning, Wallace (Mary) Coons, Harvey Coons, Elsie (Rudy) Jensen, Sue (Max) Lozensky, and Herb (Delores) Coons.

Funeral: Monday, March 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.

Interment: Flaxton Cemetery, Flaxton, N.D.

Visitation: One Hour prior to service at Christ Lutheran Church, Minot.

Memorials: are preferred to the Flaxton Cemetery.
