Ruth McDermott, 92, Minot, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.

Ruth was born on January 3, 1931 in Max, ND to Thomas and Anna (Poll) Hupsky. Ruth was raised and educated in Minot and was a proud graduate of the Minot High School class of 1949.

On July 8, 1949, Ruth married Lyle McDermott in Minot. The couple would make their home in Minot, where Ruth would tend to the house and raise their two daughters, Vicky and Linda. In 1979, Ruth and Lyle opened the Macs Saddle Shop, which they successfully operated for many years. Ruth kept the books and worked in sales while always making sure they had a pot of coffee ready.

Ruth was a caring and generous soul. She would show her love of family and friends through her baking and canning. Ruth also volunteered for many years at Trinity Hospital in Minot in the physical therapy department. Later in life, Ruth dedicated two years to caring for a disabled great-granddaughter.

Ruth was a member of First Baptist Church in Minot and a past member of both the Elks and Moose. Along with Lyle, she was also both a sponsor and attendant at Frozen Fingers events.

Ruth is survived by her husband, Lyle, Minot; daughters, Vicky (Greg Aasmundstad) Flagstad, Minot, and Linda Buerkle, Elko, NV; grandchildren, Deanna (Scott) Heit, Kevin (Jody) Flagstad, and Brooke (Jon) James; great-grandchildren, Lindsay and Hunter Heit and Athens and Rex James; sisters, Darlene Duroy, OK, and Mary (Lewis) Buri, Hazen, ND; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gerald; and sisters, June and Janis.

Friends and family are encouraged to sign the guestbook on Friday, February 17, 2023 at Thompson-Larson Funeral Home in Minot from 5-7 p.m. There will be a private family service. Memorials are preferred to either First Baptist Church, Trinity Hospice, or to the donor’s choice.
