William Krumwiede

William Delbert Krumwiede, with his wife by his side holding his hand, was called home to the Lord on Christmas morning.

William “Bill” Krumwiede was born March 12, 1943, to William O. and Ellen A. (Roberts) at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Minot, ND. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church in Velva. He attended Voltaire school for eight years and graduated from Velva High School in 1961. In June 1962, he entered the US Navy and was honorably discharged in 1965. He completed basic training in San Diego and was stationed at Norfolk, VA. He served on the USS Independence for 2 ½ years and three months on the USS Enterprise. The ships were based in the Mediterranean twice. He was on board a ship in the Cuban Missile Crisis, while Joe was nearby in the US Marine Corps, unbeknownst to both. Bill married Jacquelyn Kempf in Elizabeth City, NC April 24, 1963. They had two sons, Tim and Bill. Upon discharge from the Navy, Bill farmed and assisted his parents on the family farm. He worked for Minot Paving for six years and Central Power Electric near Voltaire for eleven years until being transferred to Antelope Valley Station near Beulah, ND. Bill and Jackie lived near Hazen, ND, during his time at Antelope Valley. He worked for the plants for a total of 31 years. They moved to the family farm near Voltaire after his retirement in 2005.

Bill was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post 39, and the Minot VFW. He was the first to volunteer for Farm Rescue. Farm Rescue awarded him the Good Samaritan Award in 2020 for his years of service. He was a member of the Drake Threshing Association and assisted with many threshing shows over the years. He enjoyed working on older John Deere and Rumely tractors. He mowed and maintained the area around the David Thompson Monument near Verendrye for many years.

Bill is survived by his wife Jackie; two sons Tim (Denise) Velva and Bill (Julie) West Fargo; five grandchildren, Sonja (Randi Lyn) Kessler, Danya (Robby) Brown, Kaia (Michael) Zietz, all of Velva, Samantha (Donny) Brown, Minot, and Will (Katie) Krumwiede, West Fargo; eight great-grandchildren, Stella Broe, Aiden and Caleb Brown, Cadence and Brayden Zietz, Ryker Brown, and Ellie and William Krumwiede; sisters Jean Krumwiede, Minot and Mary Ann Peterschick, Surrey and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Joe and James, in-laws Roy and Marvel Kempf, and sisters-in-law Marilyn Melchoir and Jeanette Krumwiede.

Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, December 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva.

Interment: Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Velva, ND, in the spring of 2023.

Visitation: Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at St. Cecilia, Velva.

Family or Vigil Prayer Service: Friday at 7 p.m. at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Velva.

Memorials are preferred to Holy Cross Cemetery, Souris Valley Care Center or Velva American Legion Post 39.
