Vivian McCarroll

Vivian Elaine (Witte-

man) McCarroll, 99, Las

Vegas, Nev., formerly of

Tolley, died Thursday,

Jan. 20, 2022, at a Las Ve-

gas care center.

She was born Nov. 28,

1922, at home near

Mohall, Renville County,

N.D. She was the

daughter of William and

Nelle (Hatten) Witteman.

Vivian went to Minneapo-

lis University one year

and then beautician

school in Minot before

marrying Edward “Bus”

McCarroll on April 22,

1942.

She and Bus lived and

farmed around the Mouse

River Valley their entire

lives. They raised a fami-

ly of four girls, Dianne,

Melody, Marjorie and

Michelle. In the 1970s,

she and Bus became

snowbirds spending their

winter months out of the

snow and cold in Mesa,

Ariz. Vivian and Bus

traveled the world and

she was especially fond of

Kenya, Africa. June of

each year was always

spent in Canada fishing

until Bus’s death in 1993.

In 2005, Vivian sold her

home in Arizona and relo-

cated to Las Vegas to be

near family. She contin-

ued to travel back and

forth to the farm in North

Dakota until 2012. She al-

ways said, “You can take

the girl out of the farm,

but you can’t take the

farm out of the girl.”

Vivian had numerous

interests during her long

life, which included doll

making, china painting

and reading; and was an

avid walker.

Family: Vivian is sur-

vived by two daughters,

Melody (Richard) Becker,

Las Vegas, Nev., and

Michelle (David) Navar-

rette, Odessa, Texas, nine

grandchildren, numerous

great-grandchildren and

great-great-grandchildren;

sisters-in-law, Ellen Witte-

man and Sally Witteman,

both Mohall; as well as

many nieces and

nephews.

Vivian was preceded in

death by: her parents;

brothers, Bill and Farrel

“Mic” Witteman; her hus-

band; and two daughters,

Dianne (Ron) Broden and

Marg (Roger) Yale.

Graveside service: A

graveside service will take

place in June at Rosehill

Memorial Park, Minot.
