Mike Sauber
June 2, 1948-Feb. 7, 2022\
Michael J. Sauber, 73,
of Palermo, ND, passed
away peacefully on Mon-
day, February 7, 2022 at
Mountrail County Medical
Center in Stanley, ND.
“Mike” was born on
June 2, 1948 to Thomas
and Gladys (Hemstad)
Sauber in Minot, North
Dakota. Mike was raised
on the family farm south
of Palermo. Mike attended
country schools for eight
years and then attended
Stanley High School and
graduated with the class
of 1966. Mike participated
in football and wrestling.
Along with sports, Mike
was active in 4-H and Fu-
ture Farmers of America.
Mike attended North
Dakota State University in
Fargo and officially be-
came a BISON. Mike re-
turned to the family farm
where he was a lifetime
farmer and rancher. Mike
continued to live on the
family farm until his pass-
ing.
There was never a time
when he wasn’t offering
help to his
neighbors – whatever the
need was.
Mike was a 40-year
member of the Blaisdell
Rodeo Club where you
could always find him
behind the chutes helping
and shouting “BULL.”
Mike’s compassion for
the Stanley Blue Jays
sport was his life. There
was not a sporting event,
be it football, wrestling,
girls and boys basketball,
or track and cross coun-
try, that he missed. The
athletes were very impor-
tant to him. You could
usually see him on the
field after a football game
shaking each player’s
hand and saying “Good
Job.” Mike earned the title
of Stanley Blue Jays “#1
Fan (aka Stanley Blue Jays
Biggest Fan!)
Mike is survived by
brothers, Thomas, Jr. of
Palermo and Joseph of
Stanley; sisters, Mary Sil-
vernail of Greenvalley, IL
and Barbara (Alan) DeTi-
enne of Parshall, ND;
aunt, Nancy Hemstad of
Stanley; six nieces, one
nephew, and numerous

nieces and nephews. He is
also survived by
