Women’s retreat helps women heal past hurts

Mary Lingelbach

The women’s empowerment retreat, LIFE: Living Intentionally Free Everyday, will be held Saturday, April 26, from 10 a.m.-1:30 p.m. in the Grand Hotel in Minot.

This event aims to put an end to the stigma of sexual assault and provide resources to women in the local and surrounding areas.

“In the rural area there are so many women out there who still have that mask on in that area. It still taints them, it still condemns them, it still contaminates them in that area. That’s why I love to do these events for women,” said Mary Lingelbach, local minister, speaker and Christian life coach. Lingelbach was the victim of an assault. Lingelbach will share her story as well as the workbook she wrote, “Because He Lives.” She will be available for questions and prayer afterward.

The event also will feature guest speaker, Tamala May, an oncology nurse from Fargo who was a victim of sexual assault.

Guest speaker Karmen Hanson, administrative assistant at Dakota Hope Clinic, also will share her story as well as information about the program she runs at the clinic. Her program, Her Journey, focuses on healing after experiencing abuse.

“Our services and programs are free of cost and open to all ages,” Hanson said.

Dakota Hope is a faith-based clinic that offers programs focusing on healing through faith.

“I fully believe God led me to Dakota Hope and I’m so grateful he did,” Hanson said, adding, “My resilience to life through God is what helped me the most through my healing journey.”

“Many women will sit and think, well, maybe I could have done something different. But I would say, no, this is a time to say, ‘What do we do now and going forward?'” Lingelbach said.

The event aims to provide women who may have not had access to resources or the support that they need a chance to meet women and build a support system they can lean on.

“I am not a victim. I am an overcomer,” Lingelbach said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
