White Shield pastor honored at community Easter dinner

WHITE SHIELD – Pastor Duane Fox, who has given more than 40 years of service to the Mandan, Hidatsa Arikara (MHA) Nation, was honored during a community Easter dinner sponsored by Councilman Fred Fox on Wednesday in White Shield.
Duane Fox was a police officer, spiritual leader and one of the founding members of the White Shield Spirit Riders, a horseback riding group.
Mark Fox, chairman of the MHA Nation, presented Duane Fox with an award for his service, satin star quilts and a warbonnet, the latter which is one of the highest honors for MHA Nation members.
During the event Chairman Fox also talked about trying to get a woolly mammoth program started. He said it’s not definite but the tribe is looking into starting a program like the dire wolf project. He said the Fort Berthold Reservation location along the lake is an ideal environment that would spark economic growth.
Colossal Biosciences, a company working to revive extinct species, has been working with a number of Native American communities, including the MHA Nation, which has expressed an interest in the project.

At the Easter event Councilman Fox announced every student at the White Shield School is being presented a bicycle as an Easter present.
The dinner event included many speakers and other honorings and concluded with door prizes.
