ND law enforcement cracks down on distracted driving
In conjunction with Gov. Kelly Armstrong declaring April Distracted Driving Awareness Month, law enforcement across North Dakota will have extra patrols to enforce the state’s distracted driving laws this month.
A part of the national enforcement campaign “Put the Phone Away or Pay,” and the state’s Vision Zero strategy, drivers in North Dakota are advised to keep their hands free and eyes on the road.
According to a release from the North Dakota Department of Transportation, distractions while driving can come in many forms, but texting while driving remains one of the most common and dangerous behaviors nationwide.
“A moment of distraction can lead to a lifetime of consequences. Stay alert, stay focused and keep your attention on the road,” said Ward County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Jason Kraft.
Vision Zero is also asking all North Dakotans to take the Buckle Up Phone Down pledge, and commit to wearing a seatbelt and ensure they are driving distraction free at all times.
