BOTTINEAU – Scott Johnson, mathematics professor at Dakota College at Bottineau, has been selected as one of the latest Dale P. Parnell Distinguished Faculty for the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). Named in honor of a former AACC president and CEO, the designation recognizes individuals making a difference in the classroom.
Nominated faculty demonstrate passion for the students by showing a willingness to support them, inside and outside the classroom. According to a DCB news release, Johnson demonstrates DCB’s student-focused and community-centered values. He teaches numerous math courses and seeks to reach each student on a personal level. His students often talk about his impact on their lives. Scott has a deep love for mathematics, and he volunteers his time speaking to local groups regarding math anxiety. He has an uncanny ability to set people at ease, regardless of the topic.
In addition to teaching a full load of courses, Johnson has taken on the role of Faculty Senate president this year. He has the respect of his peers, and his leadership is valued. His years serving as athletic director at the institution undoubtedly shaped his perspective, widening his view of the college. He also volunteers his time with the rural fire district in Bottineau County.
“Scott is an excellent faculty member with many years of dedicated service. We are fortunate that he has chosen to call Bottineau home and that he shares his many talents with us. Our students are the ultimate beneficiaries,” said Dr. Carmen Simone, DCB campus dean/CEO.
AACC honored Johnson this spring at its annual convention.
