Acting mayor announces candidacy

Mark Jantzer
Mark Jantzer announced Friday that he is running for mayor of Minot in the likely special election called for by voters through submission of signed petitions.
“I feel that the voters deserve to be able to choose a candidate who is a steady, proven leader with experience in the operation of Minot’s government. My time on the council since 2008 as well as other community leadership roles on Task Force 21 and several boards of directors have taught me how to lead collaboratively and effectively. I believe I am a good fit to complete the vacant term,” Jantzer said.
As president of the Minot City Council, Jantzer became acting mayor with the resignation of Tom Ross on April 1. The time remaining in the term runs until June 2026.
Josiah Roise, one of the individuals involved in the petition for an election, also has informally announced his candidacy for mayor. The council is expected to set a date for a special election at its meeting April 21.
