Vietnam veteran honored for service with quilt

Elizabeth Hendrickson/MDN David Henderson, center, a Vietnam veteran, receives his quilt from Peace and Honor Chapter of Quilts of Valor members Sharleen Larson, left, and Luanne Duchsherer, right.
Members of the Peace and Honor Chapter of Quilts of Valor said they were honored to present Vietnam veteran David Henderson of Sherwood with a quilt on Wednesday.
The presentation was made during the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 4 meeting and coffee social in Minot.
The quilt was made by Chris Senn to honor Henderson for his service to this country.
The room was filled with veterans from all different walks of life who were there to support Henderson as he accepted his quilt from Sharleen Larson and Luanne Duchsherer.
Quilts of Valor was first started in 2003 by Catherine Roberts a Blue Star mom who had a dream that led her to wanting to create quilts to provide comfort and peace for those who are suffering from “war demons.”
“First, we honor you for your service, raising your right hand and taking that oath and leaving all that you held dear. Second, your quilt is meant to say thank you for your service, sacrifice, and valor in serving our nation. And finally, your quilt is meant to comfort you, and to remind you that although your family and friends were not with you or cannot always be with you, you are forever in all our thoughts and our hearts.” Larson said.
