Texas man arrested after hostage situation in NW Minot hotel
A suspect has been arrested following a hostage situation at a northwest Minot hotel on Thursday, according to the Minot Police Department.
According to a city news release, Minot police officers were dispatched to the scene shortly after 1 p.m. for a report of a person being held hostage. Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, O’nya’me Shavaru Moore, 24, Spring, Texas, and a 58-year-old female. Moore was holding a knife against the female while making threats to cause her harm. According to the release, Moore initially didn’t comply with the officer’s commands but eventually released the woman without any apparent significant injury.
Moore was taken into custody and transported to the Ward County Jail. Upon further investigation, it was determined the victim was an acquaintance of Moore’s. It also is alleged based on police investigation that Moore left two young children unattended at his residence during the incident.
Moore has been charged with Class A felony attempted murder; two counts of terrorizing, child neglect, aggravated assault, felonious restraint, all Class C felonies; and one count of criminal attempt, a Class A misdemeanor.
Moore made his initial appearance in North Central District Court Friday. The incident remains under investigation.
