Mock trial competition winners announced

The State Bar Association of North Dakota (SBAND) hosted its annual High School Mock Trial competition on March 22, when high school students from across the state showcased their legal knowledge and skills.

Teams from Alexander High School, Stanley High School, two teams from Sheyenne High School and Oak Grove Lutheran High School competed in mock trials, demonstrating their understanding of the American legal system. A release from SBAND said the program provides students with an opportunity for personal growth, honing skills in communication, critical thinking, reasoning, public speaking and teamwork.

The team from Alexander High School claimed first place, while Oak Grove Lutheran School and Sheyenne High School Mock Trial Club took home second and third, respectively.

Teija Hokenson of Alexander, Reagan Koppelman and Mayanma Konneh of Sheyenne, and Avery Ellis of Stanley were all recognized as Best Attorneys. Tylan Womesldorf of Alexander, Mithul Sathish and Lucas Lyson of Sheyenne, and Ella Mortensen of Stanley were awarded Best Witnesses. Vivian Lundeen of Alexander claimed first place as Courtroom Artist.

The Alexander Mock Trial team advanced to the 2025 National Championship in Phoenix, Arizona, taking place May 7-10.
