On Feb. 13, the South Prairie FFA Officer Team hosted an informative workshop following its FFA meeting for students interested in becoming officers.

Amber Braasch, the chapter’s historian, shared her thoughts on the event.

“Since most of our team consists of seniors, I think this was a great opportunity to introduce younger students to the officer roles before they apply. It helps spark their interest and gives them a better understanding of what they are signing up for,” she said.

During the workshop, the team went through all seven officer positions, explaining their responsibilities, behind-the-scenes duties and favorite aspects of their roles.

Officer Roles & Responsibilities

President – Natalee Becker

As president, Becker presides over meetings using parliamentary procedure, works with the adviser to organize activities, appoints committees, serves as a non-voting member and helps coordinate chapter events.

— Favorite part: “Being involved in every activity, helping plan events and guiding younger members as they find their place in the organization.”

Vice President – Gracie Rauschenberger

The vice president assists the president in all activities, maintains order, presides over meetings when needed, develops the Program of Activities (POA), and oversees committee work as a non-voting member.

— Favorite part: “Being involved in all the POA activities, helping plan events and engaging in everything our chapter does.”

Secretary – Brylee Beeter

The secretary prepares meeting agendas, records minutes, tracks member attendance and activities, issues membership cards and manages chapter correspondence.

— Favorite part: “Connecting with other chapter secretaries and making thank you cards.”

Treasurer – Maddie Hogue

The treasurer manages the chapter’s finances, tracks receipts and expenditures, counts and deposits income, and oversees funds for activities like the fruit sales fundraiser, state convention incentives, and state fair premiums.

— Favorite part: “Keeping track of chapter funds, counting cash and distributing incentives as a reward for our members’ hard work.”

Reporter – Miranda Novodvorsky

The reporter is responsible for showcasing the chapter’s activities and accomplishments across various media channels. This includes capturing photos at all events and meetings and keeping Instagram and Snapchat regularly updated.

— Favorite part: “Creating a monthly newsletter, capturing photos and sharing them on Instagram.”

Sentinel – Josh Lindbo

The sentinel ensures that the meeting room is set up properly, manages paraphernalia and reserves the gym for post-meeting activities when needed.

— Favorite part: “Greeting all the members at the meeting since I’m stationed by the door.”

Student Advisor – Alysa Rice

The student advisor provides leadership instruction, informs students and parents about FFA and encourages member participation in activities.

— Favorite part: “Watching the officers problem-solve motions during meetings and talking to members about the benefits of being an officer.”

Historian – Amber Braasch

The historian keeps records of past and present chapter activities, submits stories to media outlets, organizes the chapter’s scrapbook, maintains Gold Standards (an incentive program recognizing active members), manages bulletin boards, and collaborates with the reporter.

— Favorite part: “Brainstorming new activities and ideas for the chapter, getting students involved and writing about our chapter’s successes to share in the newspaper.”

This workshop provided valuable insight for future leaders, helping them understand the responsibilities and rewards of serving as an FFA officer. With many current officers graduating, the chapter is excited to see new members step up and carry on the tradition of leadership and service.

Breanna Mindt, who attended this officer workshop, said she is looking forward to applying for President or Reporter. She said she liked this workshop as it cleared up any confusion between offices.
