Produced water spill reported in Williams County
BISMARCK – Enable Bakken Crude Services notified the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (NDDEQ) on Monday of a produced water spill about seven miles southeast of Ray, according to a NDDEQ news release.
Initial estimates from Enable indicate 28,140 gallons of produced water were released, some of which impacted agricultural land. Produced water, also known as brine or saltwater, is a by-product of oil production. The spill was caused by a pipeline malfunction.
Personnel from the NDDEQ will be monitoring the investigation and remediation efforts.
