Local 4-H air rifle/pistol teams successful at match

The Ward County 4-H Air Rifle/Pistol Match took place on Feb. 8 at the North Dakota State Fairgrounds, hosting 36 youth from six counties, including 14 participants from Ward County. This year’s match had significant growth, increasing from 28 participants and five counties the previous year.
Participants were categorized by age into Beginner (ages 8 to 10), Junior (11 to 13), and Senior (14 to 18). Competitors used Sporter air rifles, shooting .177 caliber pellets at a velocity of 600 fps or less. Beginners shot from a sitting position off a bench, while Juniors and Seniors competed in three positions: standing, kneeling and prone. The match also included unique categories such as Precision Practice, Sporter Standing, Continuing Growth, 40-Shot Prone, Precision 40 Prone and Air Pistol.
Results for Ward County participants from the match are as follows:
Senior Air Pistol Division: first place – Olivia Jansen, Minot (Score: 494, with six X’s); second place – Landen Jansen, Minot (Score: 494, with three X’s); third place – Zachary Korgel, Minot (Score: 458); fourth place – Alyssa Korgel, Minot (Score: 417); team result – L. Jansen, O. Jansen, A. Korgel, and Z. Korgel placed first with a combined score of 1446.
Senior Precision 40-Prone Division: second place – Kiley Whillock, Kenmare (Score: 376).

McMillan, E. McMillan and Whillock placed second with a combined score of 1,491
