Suspect arrested following domestic violence incident
A Minot man has been arrested following a domestic violence incident at a residence in northwest Minot on Monday.
According to the Minot Police Department, Beibut Shumenov, 41, Minot, was arrested for multiple offenses, including felonious restraint and terrorizing, both Class C felonies, and domestic violence bodily injury (first offense), a Class B misdemeanor.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Minot Central Dispatch received a call from a juvenile stating that Shumenov was assaulting another household family member. The victim was able to leave the residence in her vehicle before officers arrived and met with them at a separate location.
The victim told the officers that Shumenov was angry with her over a rocking chair she had purchased and struck her multiple times in the face when she tried to discuss the issue with him. According to the affidavit, he continued to strike her and put his hands on her throat when she attempted to leave with the juvenile. The victim and the juvenile were able to reach a vehicle in a garage but were delayed in leaving the scene due to Shumenov repeatedly closing the garage door on the vehicle.
The officers established probable cause to arrest Shumenov and located him at the residence. Shumenov refused to exit the home voluntarily, and the officers obtained and executed a search warrant at 7:42 p.m. Shumenov was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the Ward County Jail, where he provided a recorded statement.
Shumenov made his initial appearance in North Central District Court on Tuesday afternoon, and a preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Feb. 13.
