Minot man receives 18-month sentence for 2004 felony burglary

Grosz, Michael

A Minot man who pleaded guilty to one Class C felony burglary was sentenced to serve 18 months with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Michael Andrew Grosz, 32, Minot, entered his change of plea during his preliminary hearing in North Central District Court on Jan. 9.

The charge against Grosz stemmed from a report of a possible burglary the afternoon of Nov. 27, 2004, at a mobile home park in Minot. According to the affidavit of probable cause, an employee of the park’s management company observed two individuals entering a residence where there had recently been an eviction. The employee told dispatch that the locks had been changed and no one was supposed to be inside.

Minot Police officers arrived on scene and located two individuals walking nearby who were later identified as Grosz and Patrisha Williams, 30, Minot. Grosz said the pair were “checking on my buddy” and claimed the door to the residence was partially open. The evicted resident was in the custody of the Ward County Jail at the time, according to the affidavit, and had a large amount of property and possessions still in the residence.

Officers located a variety of screwdrivers on Grosz’s person, and he and Williams were detained and arrested for burglary.

District Court Judge Douglass Mattson sentenced Grosz to serve 18 months of a five year sentence with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with credit for 44 days served.

Grosz also was assessed $525 in court fines and fees.

Starting at $2.99/week.
