Man ID’d by officer on active warrant sentenced for fentanyl possession
A Minot man who entered a guilty plea to a Class B felony charge of possession of fentanyl along with intent to distribute has been sentenced to serve two and half years with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.
Eddie Clyde Black, 45, Minot, entered his change of plea on Friday to the fentanyl charge, and one Class B felony count for refusal to halt. A second Class B felony count for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and one Class A misdemeanor count of possession of five or fewer SII, III, IV, V or CSA pills were both dismissed.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, a Minot Police officer observed Black walking south on North Broadway in Minot on Aug. 27, 2024, and recognized him from his booking photo as he had an active warrant at the time. The officer exited the patrol car to speak with Black, but Black attempted to flee before falling and was handcuffed and detained.
A witness informed responding officers they observed Black throw something on the roof of a nearby business. A Minot Fire Department was called to the scene with a ladder, and a small white bag containing 3.5 grams of methamphetamine and 10 grams of fentanyl was retrieved.
District Court Judge Douglas Mattson sentenced Black to serve two and a half years of a 10 year sentence with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with credit for 26 days already served. Black was ordered to complete three years of supervised probation along with a chemical dependency evaluation.
Black also was assessed $1,350 in court fines and fees.
