Hot embers from a wood-burning fireplace led to a basement fire in a northwest Minot home Saturday, according to a news release from the Minot Fire Department.

The department reported firefighters were dispatched at 10:19 p.m. to 320 8th St. NW for a report of smoke filling the basement of the home. Firefighters located the fire in the floor joists and quickly extinguished the flames. They also overhauled the affected area and ventilated the structure.

The department identified the source as hot embers escaping from the wood-burning fireplace and igniting within the floor void space.

All occupants and pets exited the home on their own. No injuries were reported.
