Financial literacy tool now available to students
Students and teachers across North Dakota have access to a state-supported financial literacy tool through the ND Education Portal on PowerSchool, according to the Bank of North Dakota (BND). Referred to as “Smart with My Money” on PowerSchool, it is a resource teachers can use to meet curriculum requirements on personal finance. Students can also access it independently to learn about anything money related.
The free website goes beyond traditional education on financial topics and helps users understand how their unique personality impacts the decisions they make about money. It covers both the educational and behavioral sides of finances.
The website provides 34 standard financial literacy courses, a library of over 120 financial topics and more than 2,800 pieces of content including articles, videos, tools and courses.
“This is an excellent resource for North Dakotans to learn about financial subjects that affect their lives, from strategies for saving money to finding out details about interest rates, use of credit cards, student loans, and mortgages,” said Kirsten Baesler, North Dakota’s state school superintendent, in the BND news release.
“The site results are tremendous, and so is the fact that North Dakotans have this powerful resource to turn to when they have questions or experience financial stress,” said BND President and CEO Don Morgan. “When a student or parent creates an account, they take a money personality quiz and receive learning recommendations based on their personality type, stage in life and goals. Regular interaction is the key to achieve results.”
The goal of the “Smart with My Money” effort is to make North Dakota the most financially literate state by 2027.
North Dakota high schools, colleges, businesses or other organizations interested in joining the effort may contact Lance Hill at lrhill@nd.gov for information.
