Elections set for Ward County reps to wheat, sunflower groups

Elections will be held for a Ward County representative to the North Dakota Wheat Commission and the N.D. Oilseed Council-Sunflower, according to information from both organizations.

Both elections will be held Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 3:30 p.m. in the Grand Hotel, 1505 N. Broadway, Minot.

The elections will follow the Best of the Best in Wheat Research and Marketing for Western ND.

Any farmer who is a resident of Ward County, and is actively involved in the production of wheat is eligible to vote and be elected. A wheat farmer must be present to vote but need not be present to be elected.

Each person, landlord, tenant, husband and/or wife, who planted sunflowers in 2024 or intends to plant sunflowers in 2025 and is a participating producer who resides in Ward County, if present in person, is entitled to vote and is eligible to be a candidate.

The elections will be conducted under the supervision of Paige Brummund, county extension agent, NDSU Extension, Ward County.

Newly elected county wheat representatives from District 2 will assemble on Thursday, March 13, at 10:30 a.m. in the community room at the Burke County Courthouse, 103 Main St. SE, Bowbells, to elect the district’s member of the N.D. Wheat Commission.

The seven commissioner governing board meets regularly to set policy and plan programs designed to expand worldwide use of U.S. hard red spring and durum wheat through export development, domestic p[romotion, research, trade and public information initiatives.

Newly elected county sunflower representatives from District 6 will assemble remotely via Zoom on Monday, March 10, at 1 p.m. to elect the district’s member to elect the district’s member of the N.D. Oilseed Council-Sunflower.

The Oilseed Council was created by legislative enactment to facilitate the production, development, marketing and promotion of sunflower, safflower, rapeseed or canola, flax and crambe.
