Eight from South Prairie FFA compete at State Leadership Development Day
Eight South Prairie FFA members competed at the State Leadership Development Day on Jan. 7 in Bismarck with tremendous success.
The Conduct of Chapter Meetings team won first place, qualifying it to compete at the national event at National FFA Convention in October. Team members include President Breanna Mindt, Vice President Rayna Magandy, Secretary Madison Sys, Treasurer Kinley Schilla, Reporter Ella Novak, Sentinel Illa Berg and Student Adviser Brekken Neshem.
The Conduct of Chapter Meetings event introduces FFA members in grades 7 to 9 to parliamentary procedure, emphasizing communication and teamwork. A team of seven students performs the FFA opening and closing ceremonies, assuming various officer roles. The judging criteria include teamwork, decision-making and a written exam on officer responsibilities, meeting preparation and parliamentary procedure.
Natalee Becker also competed in the Extemporaneous Public Speaking event. Natalee won a gold award and placed in the top six during the state competition.
In the Extemporaneous Public Speaking event, participants showcase their agricultural knowledge by delivering speeches with limited preparation time. They choose one topic from a list of 12, have 30 minutes to prepare using five resources, and then present a speech lasting four to six minutes, followed by five minutes of questions from judges. This competition helps students develop their presentation, articulation and critical thinking skills while promoting agriculture and agricultural education.
Members from South Prairie had qualified in two out of nine events at the District 2 Leadership Event held in December to attend the state event.
