December, year review data released

This past month of December had an average temperature of 15.4 degrees, which was 1.8 degrees above the 116 year, long-term average of 13.6 degrees, according to Austin Kraklau of the North Central Research Extension Center, south of Minot.

“Our lowest temperature of the month was -16 degrees, which occurred on both December 12th and 13th. The high was 43 degrees, which also occurred on both the 8th and 9th,” Kraklau said.

He said the total moisture for the month was 0.99 inches, which is 0.61 inches above the long-term average of 0.61 inches.

The total snowfall for the month was 10.9 inches which is 3.6 inches above the long-term average of 7.3 inches, Kraklau said.

He also provided 2024 year in review information.

For the year 2024, the average temperature was 42.5 degrees, which was 2.8 degrees above the 116 year, long-term average of 39.7 degrees, Kraklau said.

“The lowest temperature of 2024 was -28 degrees, which occurred on both January 13th and 14th. The high was 95 degrees which occurred on September 30th,” he said.

The total moisture for the year was 19.38 inches, which is 2.23 inches above the long- term average of 17.15 inches, Kraklau said.
