1000 career points, nine consecutive wins

Emma Buee/MDM Scotti Beck (21) for South Prairie-Max, shoots a free throw, her 1000th career point against Stanley as the Lady Royals hosted the Blue Jays on Monday, January 13.

What does it take for a girl to make 1000 points in her highschool basketball career? Skotti Beck from the South Prairie-Max basketball team knows.

Only nine games into the season Beck scored her 1000th career point. Beck is one of the many players that have led the South Prairie-Max basketball to a successful start to the season.

The Royals hosted girls basketball against the visiting Stanley Blue Jays. The Royals added this game to their winning streak as win nine for the season and held onto their top spot in the division A rankings.

The Royals started the first quarter off strong. Pushing past the Blue Jays defense the Royals couldn’t be stopped and scored 26 points in the first quarter. Skotti Beck (21) for the Royals scored 11 of these points. Rylee Routledge (1) for the Royals followed behind with five points.

The Blue Jays struggled to score in the first period, only able to score six points. Lexi Neset, Annie Roise and Tylie Johnson each scored two points for Stanley in the first period.

The second quarter of the game South Prairie-Max scoring tempo slowed, getting stopped a few times by the Blue Jays. The Royals picked up 17 more points in the second quarter to further the gap between the opponents. The Blue Jays scored nine more points.

The Royals used a full court press to slow or completely stop the Blue Jays from making it to scoring range. South Prairie’s defence plus six points from Routledge, four from Beck and three more from Azjiah Trader gave the Blue Jays a 41-15 lead.

The Blue Jays earned almost double the points in the third quarter then they did in the second quarter. Basket after basket was made by Myah Raw, who made eight points in the third quarter.

Bre Rose following suit also made eight points in the third quarter. The most impressive basket of the third quarter was Scotti Beck’s one free throw point. After Beck missed her first shot and received a foul, Beck had two protected shots from the free throw line. Beck missed the first free throw shot, but made the second. This was Beck’s 1000th career point.

The Royals kept the lead for another quarter leaving the Blue Jays behind 73-24. The last quarter the Royals slowed down and subbed most of their starters out to get more time for bench players.

One of the players that showed up for the final quarter was Kinley Schilla for the Royals. Shilla scored four points in the final quarter of the game. Some shuffling of the players also gave Mya Gunville the chance to work on her ball handling skills. Gunville led several plays for the team and scored eight points for the Royals.

South Prairie-Max kept up their defence in the final quarter and only allowed the Blue Jays seven more points. Roise scored five of these points and Brinley Larson scored the remaining two for Stanley. The Royals took their ninth win in a row with a score of 89-30.

The Royals will try to continue their winning streak and play Beulah tonight in Max at 7:15 p.m.
