Webinar on children experiencing trauma set for Jan. 8
A North Dakota State University Extension Parent and Family webinar on parenting children who have experienced trauma will be held Wednesday, Jan. 8. Michelle Maikoetter will be presenting at the webinar, to be held from noon-1 p.m.
Brain function and brain development, particularly how early experiences disproportionately affect this development, is instrumental in understanding children. This experiential, multi-sensory training will provide takeaway information that will be helpful in personal as well as professional practice, according to an Extension news release. The presentation draws heavily from the work of Dr. Bruce Perry and his Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics, as well as the work of Dr. Karyn Purvis of the Institute of Child Development at Texas Christian University and Brendtro & du Toit. Case examples will be used. Traditional types of interventions will be discussed, including their limitations and possibilities.
The webinar is available for continuing education credits for N.D. social workers, counselors and occupational therapists.
The class is free of charge for North Dakota residents.
