Suspect arrested in weekend burglary
A Minot man has been arrested as the suspect in a reported burglary in Minot.
According to City of Minot information, on Saturday Minot Police officers responded to a reported theft from a motor vehicle at a northeast Minot residence about 2 a.m. The victim reported an air compressor had been stolen from their vehicle.
Officers later responded to another complaint about 2:30 a.m. in northwest Minot where it was determined a male suspect had entered an attached garage at a nearby residence and rummaged through a vehicle parked inside.
According to the release, officers located a vehicle associated with the suspect at a northwest Minot gas station at 3:15 a.m. Sunday. The suspect, identified as Coty Smith, 31, Minot, was subsequently arrested.
Smith has been charged with burglary, a Class B felony; unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, all Class C felonies.
Smith was transported to the Ward County Jail, and the investigation is ongoing, according to the release. Ward County Jail records indicate Smith is being held on a $25,000 cash or corporate surety bond. No date has been set for his initial appearance.
