Scout troop to celebrate 106th Eagle Scout

Boy Scout Troop 425 of Minot will celebrate Connor Scharpe becoming its 106th Eagle Scout on Saturday, Dec. 7, during a 10:30 a.m. Eagle Court of Honor at the Congregational United Church of Christ, 430 North Broadway, in Minot. A reception will follow the Eagle Court of Honor in the Fellowship Hall.

Scharpe is the son of Jason and Collette Scharpe of Minot.

According to information from Boy Scout Troop 425, his Scouting career began as a first grader in Cub Scouts with Pack 425 of Lewis & Clark Elementary School in Minot, where he earned the highest award in Cub Scouts – the Arrow of Light. In March 2018 he joined Boy Scout Troop 425 and has held the following leadership positions in his troop: chaplain aide, scribe (two terms), den chief, patrol leader and senior patrol leader (two terms).

He has earned 33 Merit Badges and will also be receiving the Bronze and Gold Palms for earning 10 Merit Badges above the required 21 Merit Badges. He also has earned the following special awards: 50 Miler (twice), Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience, Den Chief Service Award, Natural Rock Climb at Duluth, Minnesota, and Troop Meeting Perfect Attendance Award from 2018-2022 and Troop Camping Perfect Attendance Award in 2023.

He has earned 93 days and nights of camping as a Scout, which includes six summer camps (week long) at the Northern Lights Council Camp Wilderness at Park Rapids, Minnesota, along with five Tomahawk District Camporees and five District Klondikes. He attended the week-long National Youth Leadership Training in August 2021. As a Scout he attended the 2022 and 2024 Troop week-long High Adventure Canoe Trips to the Boundary Waters in Ely, Minnesota. He is also a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow, which is the BSA’s Honor Society of Campers.

His Eagle Scout project involved planning, organizing and coordinating both volunteers and materials in constructing the very first of two wheelchair accessible picnic tables for the Minot Park District, placed at Oak Park and Radio City Park. With the help of 23 volunteers and more than 50 hours, the project was completed in June 2024.

He is a senior at Minot High School, where he participates in band, baseball, choir, orchestra and in National Honor Society for three years. He is a confirmed member of First Lutheran Church of Minot, for which he has volunteered at both the State Fair and the Norsk Hostfest food stands. He also has been part of the Western Plains Children’s Choir for nine years. After high school graduation, he plans to attend Minot State University and pursue a degree in finance.
