Ross woman sentenced for felony theft

A Ross woman has been sentenced to time served after entering a change of plea to guilty to a Class A felony count of theft-take-over $50,000.

BreeAnn Faye Blankenship, 40, Ross, was granted a deferred imposition of sentence after entering her change of plea at a hearing in North Central District Court on Thursday.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, the charge against Blankenship arose from a report received by the Mountrail County Sheriff’s Department on March 13. The victim reported that he suspected Blankenship, his daughter, had been taking money out of his checking account. The victim explained he lived in Arizona, and Blankenship was not authorized to use his account for her personal use but that she had assisted him setting up his online banking account on his computer.

A review of the victim’s bank records found from Jan. 1, 2023, a total of $143,433.49 in unauthorized credit card payments had been made by Blankenship. The victim said he did not have credit cards with the institutions in question, which is what alerted him to someone using his account without his permission.

District Court Judge Douglas Mattson sentenced Blankenship to serve four days of a two-year sentence, with credit for four days already served. The sentence will be deferred pending Blankenship’s completion of two years of supervised probation.

Mattson ordered Blankenship to be employed for at least 32 hours a week, to complete a chemical dependency evaluation, and to enroll in a 24/7 sobriety program. Restitution has been reserved until Feb. 11, 2025, pending the filing of a stipulation for restitution. She was also assessed $575 in court fines and fees.

Starting at $2.99/week.
