Minot man sentenced for overdose resulting in injury to another
A Minot man who entered a change of plea of guilty to supplying narcotics to another man has been sentenced to serve three years of a 10-year sentence.
William Neal Lucy II, 46, Minot, entered his change of plea in North Central District Court on Dec. 11, pleading guilty to one count of distribution of controlled substance-resulting in death or injury, a Class A felony.
According to court documents, Minot Police and ambulance units were dispatched to a southwest Minot bar the evening of Jan. 5 after the male victim collapsed to the ground inside the bar. The victim was administered naloxone at the scene and recovered before he was taken to a Minot hospital for treatment.
The victim identified a man he called “Peanut” as the individual who provided him the narcotics, which he believed to be cocaine. Lucy was eventually identified as “Peanut” in video surveillance from the establishment. The victim told investigators, “something felt off,” and he didn’t ingest any more of the substance before he returned to the bar and collapsed shortly after.
District Court Judge Todd Cresap sentenced Lucy to serve three years of a 10-year sentence, with credit for 363 days already served. Lucy was ordered to complete three years of supervised probation upon release, and to pay the victim $10,130.92 in restitution. Lucy was also assessed $1,025 in court fines and fees.
