Submitted Photo Firefighters respond to a structure fire at Wheatland Village Wednesday.

The Minot Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 6116 16th Ave. SE, Unit 18, in Wheatland Village Community at 3:03 p.m. Wednesday, according to a department news release.

Heavy smoke was visible upon arrival. Firefighters confirmed that the sole occupant and a dog had safely exited the structure before beginning fire suppression efforts.

The occupant was treated on scene by Trinity Health First Response for minor smoke inhalation.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Minot Fire Department encourages residents to test smoke alarms regularly and establish an escape plan to ensure safety in an emergency.
