New Town woman sentenced for burglary
A New Town woman was sentenced to time served on Thursday after pleading guilty to a single count of Class C felony burglary.
Sara Rose Good Voice Elk, 33, entered a change of plea to the charge in North Central District Court on Thursday, while three Class C felony counts for unauthorized use of personal identifying information were dismissed.
According to court documents, Minot Police were contacted by the victim on Sept. 16 to report that a credit card and his fiancee’s driver’s license were taken out of their hotel room at a northwest Minot hotel. The victim said they were in the process of moving out of the hotel to an apartment, and that someone went into their room while they were loading.
The victim said video footage and other hotel residents had identified the person entering their room as Good Voice Elk, and there had been multiple unauthorized charges on his card.
The responding officer visited Good Voice Elk’s room at the hotel to speak with her about the incident. Good Voice Elk admitted she had the cards in her possession and returned them along with a laptop.
Judge Stacy Louser sentenced Good Voice Elk to serve five years with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, with all but 60 days suspended. Good Voice Elk was given credit for 60 days already served, and was ordered to complete three years of supervised probation. Good Voice Elk was ordered to have no contact with the victims and maintain a 150 foot distance from their persons and residence. She was also assessed $525 in court fines and fees.
