All higher seeds in district 12 win in round one

Round one of the region 6, district 12 volleyball tournament began on Thursday, October 31, at the Minot Auditorium.

Day one featured play based on the seeding from the regular season standings. One played eight, two played seven, three faced six and four took on five on day one.

Glenburn will play Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood while Bishop Ryan will face Surrey today, November 1, in the early games at the Minot Auditorium.

Our Redeemer’s will play Berthold and South Prairie-Max will face Des Lacs-Burlington in the semifinal round on day two of the tournament today as well.

#1 Our Redeemer’s 3, #8 Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood 0

The Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood Mavericks started fast and jumped out to an early 6-2 lead over the top seeded Knights and stretched that to an 11-3 lead before Our Redeemer’s called timeout and narrowed the lead and tied the game 14-14 on their way to the 25-17 win in the first frame.

Our Redeemer’s did not allow the same buffer in the second set as they built a 14-4 lead, prompting the Mavericks timeout. The Knights stretched that lead into the 25-11 win in the second frame for the 2-0 lead.

Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood led 1-0 to start the third frame and had the game tied at 3-3 before the Knights jumped out to a 10-3 lead that ended in the 25-7 win for Our Redeemer’s and the sweep.

Our Redeemer’s was led by Mikayla Altringer and Noel Pankratz in kills with eight each. Brooklyn Roedocker had six while Tavia Carlson added four kills and 11 digs. Grace Olson had 26 assists, ten digs and four aces.

Olivia Ebel posted a pair of aces and eight digs. Kadyn Braun had five aces and seven digs while Ellie Streyle had six digs to go with her two aces for the Knights.

Mohall-Lansofrd-Sherwood was led by Emerson Lamb with three kills and a block at the net. Cloe Weathers had two blocks and one kill while Archer Ackerman and Hattie Varty each had a kill at the net. Ackerman posted five assists while Varty had an ace.

Lamb and Jordyn Moberg each had seven digs in the effort while Ackerson had five and Weathers had four in the game.

#4 Berthold 3,

#5 Glenburn 2

The fifth seed from Glenburn lost the first frame to the fourth seed from Berthold 25-17 before the Panthers claimed frames two and three25-23 and 25-21 to take the 2-1 lead over the Bombers.

Berthold fought back into the match with the fourth frame win at 25-16 and used that momentum to take the 15-11 win in the fifth and deciding frame. The Berthold versus Glenburn match was the only contest that did not end in a sweep.

The Bombers were led by Kasey Simons with 22 kills, 16 digs and four aces. Addison Neshem and Shayne Simons each added seven kills. Neshem added three bocks and four aces in the effort.

Aubree Schepp had five blocks and Ella Brown tallied 35 assists for Berthold. Elissa Lindahl posted 22 digs while Jericka Schenfisch had 28 in the win.

The Panthers were led by Emma Jones with 16 kills, 17 digs and seven blocks. Aubrie Guick had seven kills while Milan Jones had six kills and a block in the effort.

Sophie Cunningham posted 25 assists and 35 digs in the game. Ava Steven’s had 14 digs while Hallie Matens tallied three aces for Glenburn in the game.

#2 South Prairie-Max 3,

#7 Surrey 0

The second seed team from South Prairie-Max led 11-1 in the first frame and took the win 25-19 as the Surrey Mustangs would not go quietly into the night.

Surrey kept that fighting spirit in the second frame as well with point exchanges early. The Royals chipped away and built a 9-3 lead on the way to the 25-7 win and the 2-0 lead.

The third frame began as the second had with each team trading points and breaking serve. After a 4-4 tie, South Prairie-Max gained momentum and built to the 25-10 win for the sweep.

The Royals were led by Azjiah Trader with 15 kills, four blocks and four digs. Skyler and Skotti Beck each had six kills and two blocks in the game. Abby Mikkelson had five blocks as well.

Reagan Trudell had 32 assists while Delaney Handel posted 14 digs and two aces. Hailey Sys hit six aces and seven digs in the win for South Prairie-Max.

Surrey was led by Makya Gerding with five kills, two aces and one block. Morgan Anderson and Ava Keller each had five kills and Keller had two blocks. Anderson added nine digs. Alexa Ryals posted eight assists while Avery Cree had seven assists and five digs.

Kenzie Neighbors posted ten digs and two blocks. Taylor Spaulding added six digs in the effort for the Mustangs.

#3 Des Lacs-Burlington 3, #6 Bishop Ryan 0

The third seed team from Des Lacs-Burlington and the sixth seeded Bishop Ryan Lions traded points, tie game situations, momentum and timeouts in all three sets.

In set one, after a 5-5 tie score, Lions pulled ahead 7-5 over the Lakers. This led to an 8-8 tie, followed by an 11-8 Lakers lead.

The teams then worked to a 13-13 tie, followed by the 17-15 Lions lead. The lead was moved to 18-16 Lions, then 22-20 Lions – timeout Lakers.

Following the timeout, the score was then 23-22 Lions, Lakers timeout again. After the timeout, the teams played to a 23-23 tie that led to a 24-23 Lakers lead- timeout Lions.

After that timeout, the game went to a 25-23 win for Lakers

The second frame went from a 2-2 tie to the 6-4 lead for the Lakers that led to the 10-5 lead for Des Lacs-Burlington and the eventual 25-13 win for the 2-0 Lakers lead.

The Lakers took the early 3-0 lead in the third frame and built a 7-3 lead before the Lions chipped away and closed the DLB margin to 8-6 when the Lakers broke serve.

Before long, the Lakers were up 14-7 then 18-9 and 22-14 before Bishop Ryan closed the gap.

In the end, Des Lacs-Burlington won the game 22-18 for the sweep.

Des Lacs-Burlington was led by Piper Feller and Logen Ystaas who each had 14 kills at the net. Mycah Faken added five kills and one block as well. Kaylee Werner had 36 assists and eight digs. Ystaas also posted 13 digs in the game.

Feller tallied 12 digs while Hailey Goetz added eight digs and an ace. Ava Brown had one block and one ace in the win for the Lakers.
