Vollmer sentenced to 25 years in prison for murder

A Minot man who pleaded guilty to a Class AA felony murder charge for assaulting another man outside a Minot hotel in February 2023, resulting in his death, has been sentenced to serve 25 years in prison.

Casey Scott Vollmer, 35, Minot, appeared before North Central District Court Judge Gary Lee in Minot on Monday for his sentencing. Vollmer’s change of plea entered in May after he entered into a plea agreement with Ward County prosecutors, pleading guilty to the murder of Albert Granger, 57, Minot.

According to court documents, Minot Police officers were dispatched to a Minot hotel after the reporting individual witnessed on the hotel’s live feed camera system that Vollmer assaulted Granger. Granger was taken to a Minot hospital for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries.

The proceedings against Vollmer were paused in June 2023, following a pretrial conference after he was sent to the State Hospital in Jamestown for treatment to ensure his fitness to proceed. The case against Vollmer was restored on Oct. 19, 2023.

Lee accepted the shared sentence recommended by the parties, and sentenced Vollmer to 50 years with the Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation with 25 years suspended with credit for 599 days already served. Vollmer was ordered to pay $5,900 in restitution for Granger’s funeral costs.

Vollmer will be eligible for parole after he serves 85% of the sentence.

Starting at $2.99/week.
