The Lord’s Cupboard sets open house
An open house for the community will be held at The Lord’s Cupboard Food Pantry to celebrate its new location at 1901 South Broadway, Suite 2, on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 3-6 p.m. There will be light refreshments and informal tours of the food pantry and the Welcome Table Soup Kitchen.
The Lord’s Cupboard Food Pantry and Welcome Table Kitchen serve the hungry and food insecure neighbors in Ward County. The food pantry hours are 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and 5:30-7 p.m. on Tuesday.
The Welcome Table Kitchen is open on Saturdays from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The food pantry serves about 3,500 people per month, including 1,000 children. The food pantry and kitchen operate with Minot area community support and various local and national grants. The Welcome Table is a nonprofit, in partnership with the Great Plains Food Bank.
The Lord’s Cupboard also has a community garden near Velva, where tons of vegetables are grown for distribution at the food pantry. It is planted, weeded, tended and harvested by community hands.
The Lord’s Cupboard Food Pantry was started 30 years ago, in 1994, by Faith United Methodist Church. In 2012, the Welcome Table was organized with the goal of serving unmet needs in the community and reorganized in 2015 with the goal of serving the needs of the hungry in the area.
