The Minot High girls soccer team secured a spot in their fifth straight state title game Friday and will be working to win their fourth straight NDHSAA State Soccer championship today at 3:30 p.m. with Fargo Davies standing in their way to a historic end to the season.
The title game will feature the top seed teams from both east and west while the second seed teams will face off for fifth place when Shanley plays Jamestown. The third seed teams will face off when Mandan battles Grand Forks Red River for third place at 1:15 p.m. prior to the title match.
Minot High 5, Mandan 0
Maicee Burke led the way with a hat-trick of scoring with Emerson Perrin close behind with a pair of scores in the 5-0 win over the Mandan Braves.
Just before the game began, as the Braves and Majettes warmed up, the weather darkened and the wind blew. During the first half of play, rain pelted the players for a period of time. Scoring in the game mirrored the weather conditions with only one goal by Maicee Burke nearly half way through the first half of play. Morgan Forthun recorded the assist.
Once the halftime break was over, the sun shone, the wind died down and the ball found the net four more times. Five minutes into the second half, Burke would find the net again for her second goal, assisted by Jayva McKibben.
Four minutes later, Emerson Perrin hit the first of her two goals with McKibben providing the assist again. Five minutes later, Perrin was fed a pass by Burke for the fourth goal of the day, third in the second half.
After 61 minutes of play, Burke and McKibben repeated their early activities for another goal and the 5-0 win. Minot High goalie Kinsli Gilmore had one save on the day while her counterpart had eight saves on the 13 shots taken by the Majettes in the semifinal game.
Fargo Davies 4, Grand Forks Red River 0
The Eagles had little issue with beating the Roughriders in the second semifinal game of the night. Fargo Davies is the top seed from the Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) and will be the latest team to attempt to disrupt the unbeaten streak for Minot High that is now at 70 games and counting.
Jamestown 1, Bismarck Legacy 0
After playing to a 0-0 tie during regulation, the Blue Jays goalie Olivia Sorlie bounced back from an injury in the second half to be in the net for the shootout and the win. Sorlie was able to block one kick that gave Jamestown the edge when it mattered the most.
Shanley 2,
Fargo North 0
Shanley is the two seed from the EDC and will face the two seed from the Western Dakota Association (WDA) when they play Jamestown for fifth place.
